The Bulgarian team began with four first places on the first day of the 43rd World Military Track and Field Championship. The first gold for the hosts was won by Inna Eftimova in the 100 m sprint, who triumphed in the final with 11.49 sec. Bethina Muller-Weissina finished second with 11.53 sec., having achieved even a better time of 11.33 sec. in the semi-finals, which is a record in the World Military Championships.
Venelina Veneva was the best in the high jump with 188 cm, and Momchil Karailiev – in triple jump with 17.22 m. The fourth gold medal for Bulgaria on the first day was won by Vanya Stambolova in 400 m hurdles (55.30 sec.). The results achieved by both Karailiev and Stambolova cover the “A” for the World Championship in Berlin, which will take place from 15th to 23rd August.
Samuel Francis from Qatar dominated with 10.23 sec. in the 100 m sprint for men, and Bram Som from the Netherlands verified his European title from “Göteborg 2006” and has become the champion in 800 m with 1.46.98 min.
